The Great Wall Cannon V6: The New Off-Road Weapon Is Here

Say hello to the latest toy out of the Great Wall factory, the Cannon V6.

Built off the proven Tank platform, this isn’t just a slightly warmed-over Cannon. It’s a short wheelbase, two door, proper off-road weapon for people who actually leave the bitumen.

3.0L Twin Turbo V6 — Because Torque!!

Sitting under the bonnet is GWM’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 (the same one out of the Cannon Alpha in China), backed up by a 48V mild hybrid system..... yes you read that correctly - mild hybrid.

You're looking at:

  • 260kW of power

  • 500Nm of torque

  • A 9-speed auto, as found in the Alpha and Tank models already in Australia.

That all runs into a BorgWarner high performance transfer case that handles up to 3300Nm of torque. The low range gearing's been wound tighter too now running a 2.64 crawl ratio for when things get properly ugly.

The Specs That Actually Matter

This isn’t a "mall crawler." The hardware backs up the hype:

  • Approach: 33°

  • Departure: 22°

  • Ground clearance: 240mm

  • Weight: 2285kg (heavier than the 2.0T model for a reason)

It’s also running iBooster brakes, bigger calipers, improved heat management with a smart electronic silicone fan setup. Basically, they’ve given it some actual endurance for real world use.

Shorter Wheelbase — Serious Purpose

Yes, it’s two doors. Yes, it loses a bit of practicality. But if you’re building a pure off-road rig, short axle means more maneuverability and more capability when the tracks turn nasty. It’s for people chasing proper off-road performance, not school runs.

A Shot At The Big Boys

The V6 Cannon fills a huge gap in the local market, finally giving buyers an option that doesn’t cost Raptor money but actually delivers serious spec. GWM’s come a long way, and this thing is proof that Chinese built pickups aren’t just catching up they’re starting to lead.
