New Over-the-Air Update Released for Tank 500 Hi4-Z — Packed with Off-Road and Comfort Features

April 27, 2025 — GWM has rolled out a major new over-the-air (OTA) update for the Tank 500 Hi4-Z, introducing a range of features aimed at improving off-road capability, convenience, and in-vehicle user experience. Just 1 day after receiving government approval for a range of patent technology that has in some part been implemented in this newest update.

The Tank 500 Hi4-Z is widely expected to be one of the next models to reach the Australian market after the Tank 500 Hi4-T releases later this year, and if some of these features are already integrated upon launch, buyers could be treated to one of the most advanced 4x4 setups in its class.

Here’s a breakdown of the key new features included in today's update:

New Features:

  • Rescue Mode: Uses precise speed control and anti-skid technology to maintain traction during towing, recoveries, and steep climbs. It also provides visual, interactive guidance to assist drivers during rescue operations.

  • Temporary Departure Mode: Allows drivers to set a short time limit for leaving the vehicle, keeping audio/visual systems and air conditioning active while temporarily away from the car.

  • Spirit Ball: Introduces a floating "quick access ball" on the user interface. One tap brings up essential off-road information such as compass heading, tyre pressures, and outside temperatures.

  • New Car Assistant: Expands voice control capabilities, allowing drivers to ask detailed questions about any system or function in the vehicle — beyond basic commands.

  • GWM "Velcro" Mode: Supports GWM’s new physical quick-access hardware buttons, which drivers can place anywhere inside the cabin. These buttons can be programmed to trigger multi-function controls — like setting the air conditioning temperature, activating seat heating/cooling, and steering wheel heating — all with one click.

  • Emotional DJs: An AI-driven music assistant that creates mood-based playlists, mixing and matching songs automatically to suit the driver’s emotional state.

  • Road Book: A curated library of recommended on-road and off-road driving routes, complete with attraction highlights, route details, and user reviews. Drivers can also record their own trips and share them back to the Road Book app for other Tank 500 owners to explore.

GWM continues to show its commitment to evolving the in-vehicle experience through meaningful software updates — not just entertainment upgrades, but real functionality enhancements focused on off-road capability, driver convenience, and overall user engagement.

With the Tank 500 Hi4-Z poised for an Australian debut, prospective buyers have plenty to look forward to.
