GWM Is Building a Supercar — And They're Not Playing Around

Just the other day, we at Forbidden Gearhouse revealed newly approved Chinese patents by Great Wall Motors — focusing on advanced heat management systems for a “high-performance, low-profile vehicle.” At the time, it raised plenty of eyebrows. Now, that story just got a whole lot more interesting.

Because on April 29, GWM’s Chief Technology Officer Wu Huixiao confirmed for the first time that the company has been secretly developing a supercar — and has been doing so for the past five years.

Speaking on a famous Chinese automotive media show , Wu revealed that the aim of the project is to build a car that delivers pure driver excitement — something that fires up adrenaline and hormones, in her own words.

She noted that while GWM is still conscious of cost, the main goal is to create something truly show-stopping. “Once it comes out, it will be a stunning product,” she said confidently.

And while she didn’t officially confirm Nürburgring testing, Wu did let slip that GWM has recently brought in experts from the iconic German circuit — a strong hint that serious performance benchmarking is on the table.

Wu also highlighted one of the toughest parts of the development process: the carbon fibre cabin. According to her, no Chinese manufacturer has successfully pulled it off yet, and GWM has run into plenty of engineering challenges while trying to make it happen. She confirmed they’ve done a lot of testing to push through.

When it comes to talent, GWM isn’t playing small. Wu revealed that the company is offering up to 1 million AUD in annual salaries for top-level AI engineers, with full compensation (including stock options) reaching into the multi-million dollar range.

“To put it bluntly,” she said, “if you can afford a high salary, you can recruit high-level people.”

And then came the punchline.

GWM CEO Wei Jianjun has previously test-driven the Ferrari SF90 — so naturally, Wu was asked how GWM’s secret supercar would stack up.

Her answer? “We are definitely better than it.”…followed by a quick note that they still intend to learn from competitors.

So, let’s recap:

• A confirmed supercar project

• Advanced heat management patents

• Carbon fibre cabin development

• Nürburgring consultants

• And claims to best Ferrari.

The timing between our patent discovery and Wu’s confirmation can’t be a coincidence — and we’re betting this is just the beginning of something much bigger.
